Developments in Immigration, Visa and Naturalization

My name is Gerald Goulder. I'm an immigration attorney.  I practice exclusively immigration, visa and naturalization law for clients throughout the U.S. and the world.

I am always interested in assisting people with their immigration, visa and naturalization questions.

I appreciate how complex the U.S. immigration and visa law has become.  Recently the Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) testified to the U.S. Congress that the immigration law "beats the tax code" for complexity, and that "a lawyer is often the only person who could thread the labyrinth".

Why is this?  Every immigration benefit has its own set of rules, regulations, and procedures. Many are complex and time-consuming to adjudicate.  Some are so difficult to process that specialists must handle them. Immigration officials must be familiar with 24 major nonimmigrant visa categories, and 70 specific types of nonimmigrant visas, as well as the intricacies of the immigrant visa processes.  Immigration law also has special administrative courts created solely to review its cases.

I honestly don’t know how someone who speaks English, but doesn’t work in this field every day, can understand or know how to select the appropriate immigration and visa Forms, understand their eligibility requirements, and complete them. I don’t know how in the world anyone who does not understand English, intending immigrants for example, could handle these matters.

To start, I did you a favor.  I created this site so you can find the information you want and so you can reach me quickly and easily if you’d like to learn more.
